Why Should I Get Certified?
Obtaining a certification from Maple Tree Education as an Exercise Oncology Instructor or Cancer Fit Trainer offers numerous benefits, both professionally and personally. Here’s why getting certified with us can be a transformative step in your career and your ability to make a meaningful impact.
Exercise Oncology Instructor Certification
Become an Exercise Oncology Instructor (EOI) and gain the expertise needed to work with cancer patients who have been recently diagnosed with cancer and are in active cancer treatment. This certification will prepare and qualify you to plan and implement safe and effective exercise programs for individuals who are battling cancer. The EOI develops and administers whole body exercises designed to enhance cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. In addition, the EOI encourages exercise adherence to help improve health-related physical fitness and manage disease.
Cancer Fit Trainer Certification
In partnership with Livestrong, become a Cancer Fit Trainer and specialize in working with cancer survivors who are in long-term follow-up care. Each year, nearly 2 million people are diagnosed with cancer in the US. The long-term physical and psychological side effects of cancer negatively impact the cancer survivor’s quality of life, causing cancer to be classified as a chronic disease by the Centers of Disease Control. Studies have reported a fivefold increase in mortality in patients who are inactive during remission, further highlighting the need to make cancer-specific exercise programs readily available to all those who face cancer. This certification focuses on designing exercise programs that help survivors maintain their fitness, reduce the risk of cancer recurrence, and manage long-term treatment effects.
