Student Testimonials

Several years ago, I decided that I wanted to pursue a path where I could help people using exercise. I entered into college pursuing exercise science knowing that my end goal was to help people using exercise but not knowing exactly where to look. During one of my physiology lectures I was introduced to Maple Tree Cancer Alliance. It seemed like the perfect fit. Using exercise to help improve the lives of those who are going through their cancer journey. This led me to Maple Tree University. It was rewarding to take a course where I could combine my passion for exercise and the knowledge I learned from previous coursework to real life scenarios. The things that I learned through Maple Tree University are things that I can apply to my everyday work. I am grateful for the opportunity to have gone through Maple Tree University and to have acquired the knowledge and skills to be able to help improve the lives of those battling cancer.

-RJ, Slippery Rock University

During my junior year at Slippery Rock University, I took the MTU course, which introduced me to the field of Exercise Oncology. Before this course, I was unaware of Exercise Oncology and the need for a specialized workforce in this area. The course covered the pathophysiology of cancer and its treatment, the numerous benefits of exercise for cancer patients, and how to tailor exercise programs to different tumor types, treatments, and symptom severities. I was particularly shocked to learn about the minimal funding dedicated to cancer and exercise research and that exercise was not yet a standard component of cancer treatment. Having completed the course, I now have a solid foundation in prescribing safe and effective exercise programs for cancer patients. I am also excited about the anticipated growth in this field over the coming years!
